pad_padlocksbike_colors_imgSo many tiny locks, where are the keys?  WordLock(R) is a neat alternative to securing valuables.  No need to worry about losing keys or forgetting the combination.  These locks use letters and words as combinations that you can reset over and over again.   These TSA-accepted/Travel Sentry approved locks come in lots of fun colors that will make identifying your luggage even easier (and they won’t be cut with bolt cutters). You can find them at retailers like Target, Smart, ACE Hardware and more for around $10. Padlocks and bike locks also available, perfect for school! Learn more at www.wordlock.com.

Hayseed’s First Race

Posted by T. Johnson On March - 8 - 2010

Hayseed's First Race CoverTeaching young children a valuable life lesson, to “love yourself for who you are, and never, ever let anyone tell you that you don’t belong,” Hayseed’s First Race will be a treasured book for years to come! Written and illustrated by Sally Schrock, Hayseed’s First Race tells the tale of Hayseed, a Thoroughbred of a different color, around a race track as he tried to win the first race he has ever competed in. Hayseed’s attempts to win are thwarted by Prince Perfect, a champion Thoroughbred who thinks he is just absolutely perfect in every way! (hence his name!) Hayseed begins to lose hope and starts to doubt himself, until he remembers the advice of his mother, which was “love yourself for who you are, and never, ever let anyone tell you that you don’t belong,” and ends up winning his first major race! Fall in love with Hayseed in this triumphant story, and purchase a copy online at www.caballopress.com/HayseedBook.html.

Ingredients

Makes about 1 quart

* 8 cups fresh or frozen rhubarb, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
* 1/2 vanilla bean, scraped
* 1 1/2 cups sugar
* 1/3 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
* 2 pints fresh raspberries

Directions

1. Combine rhubarb, sugar, vanilla bean seeds, and 1/2 cup water in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium and simmer until rhubarb has broken down and mixture is thick and syrupy, 12 to 15 minutes.
2. Transfer rhubarb mixture to the jar of a blender along with raspberries and lemon juice; blend until smooth. Set a fine mesh sieve over a large container. Strain rhubarb mixture into container; cover and transfer to refrigerator until chilled.
3. Freeze rhubarb mixture in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer’s instructions. Keep frozen, in an airtight container, up to 1 week.

** Saw this while attending the Martha Stewart show. SO EASY TO MAKE. You just need an ice cream maker. This recipe might have just pushed me over the edge. I think I’m going to buy one!

I’m a sucker for a good facial. But at $100 a pop – they are reserved for birthday and anniversary presents. Recently, I started to attempt to take matters into my own hands and do some work at home. Scrubs, peels, masks – you name it and I bought it.

One that I want to bring to your attention is Avon’s Anew Rejuvenate Mineral Facial Rinse-Off Treatment. Truth be told, my children were afraid of me when I put the blue mask on. They stared at me blankly asking me, “What happened to your face?”

Lesson learned. Do the mask after the children go to sleep.

Take a look at the image above. Can you see that the brush is attached to the bottle? I LOVE that. You don’t have to get messy while applying the mineral facial on your skin. Another bonus.

I have to say, my skin felt much tighter and smoother once I washed everything off. I was pleasantly surprised. What a great at-home alternative! For $25, you can get several applications out of the bottle. Worth a shot.
