While many women focus on treating aging skin from the outside with topical solutions, many don’t think about feeding your skin from the inside-out to prevent the dreaded signs of aging. Paula Simpson – expert nutritionist – offered some of the best foods to beautify your skin from the inside-out and her tips on how to get the most from them.

salmon-recipe

Salmon: Loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, this cold water fish is high in protein and B-12 vitamin to nourish skin and keep it plump and youthful, helping to reduce wrinkles!

Paula recommends: baking, steaming or grilling in order to preserve omega-3s and to keep down your total fat intake.

Broccoli: Packed with vitamins A and C which regulates production of sebum, this dark green veggie provides powerful anti-oxidants to help the skin stay radiant.

Tomato: Antioxidant compounds found in tomatoes and similar fruits and veggies fight damage caused by free radicals which makes the skin look younger and more radiant.

Paula recommends: drinking nutri-cosmetic beauty drinks which combine tomato, broccoli and powerful superfruits which cleanse the system and the skin of toxins.

Melon: Properties of melons like cantaloupe are high in vitamin C and contain no fat or cholesterol. They’re also packed with beta-carotene which has been proven to brighten skin and heal some of the sun’s photo-aging damage.

Paula recommends: fill up on melon early in the morning without the need for sugary juices, this will get you energized and improve the skin’s structure and firmness.

avocado

Avocado: Provides essential fatty acids (good fat) which have been proven to help skin glow.

Paula recommends: adding a half an avocado to salads to get your dose of good fat and also stay fuller longer.

I’ve had dark circles under my eyes since 2005. I’m serious. Having children has certainly aged me physically and mentally. Wouldn’t change it for the world – but I wouldn’t mind getting rid of those puffy tired eyes.

Here’s a makeup trick from Prevention that is one to remember:

1. Choose the Right Hue: Pick a yellow-based formula that’s at least two shades lighter than your skin tone.

2. Apply It: Using a small-headed concealer brush, apply a dab along the lower lashes to the innermost corner of eyes and the hollows of the nose. You can also use your ring finger, which has a naturally light touch and added warmth to tap and gently blend.

3. Set: A dusting of a sheer, loose yellow-toned powder locks the concealer in place.

Tips For Throwing The Perfect Mad Hatter Tea Party

Posted by Vera On March - 5 - 2010

Sorry if I’m all about ‘Alice in Wonderland’ today… but WHO ISN’T?! Are you planning on throwing a Mad Hatter Tea Party yourself? Check out these great tips to help get you started.

  • Think Fun, Not Fussy. Create a chic, relaxed atmosphere with comfortable chairs, a central table, brightly colored fresh flowers and an invitation that sets the tone. Traditional tea time is 4 p.m., but schedule your party for whatever works best for you and your guests anytime between 3-6 p.m.
  • Make Your Table Talk-Worthy. Choose tight, floral arrangements in low vases to make conversation across the table easy. You might even consider a teapot as a floral vase. Bring the theme to life with colorful linens and accents. What does Mad Hatter and whimsical mean to you? Gather the basics – teapot, teacups and saucers, luncheon size plates (your salad plates are perfect), a small milk jug, a sugar bowl (preferably with sugar cubes), and a plate for lemon slices. Your flatware should be set with forks on the left, knives and spoons on the right with knife blade pointed toward the plate.
  • Mix and Match Like Mad. Your place settings need not match. Consider the possibilities of some of these Wedgwood patterns:

  • Let Loose with the Tea. Good selections of loose teas (preferable to teabags) are essential. If you are not steeping your tea in the teapot, provide individual infusers (hollow, silver balls with holes on a thin chain) to pack loose tea into. Begin the brewing process with cold, filtered or bottled (not tap) water. Did you know that teabags were created more than 100 years ago as a way to send customers tea samples? Loose tea has been around for more than 5,000 years!
  • Assemble Savory & Sweet. Savories are tiny sandwiches that can take on a multitude of ingredients – fill interesting breads with smoked salmon, egg salad or cucumbers and cream cheese. On the sweet side, scones and biscuits with plenty of jams and clotted cream and shortbread or simple cakes add a nice touch. Fanciful cupcakes with Alice in Wonderland designs can be a great signature take-home gift. Display sweets on a beautiful footed cake plate, an elegant tiered plate or any beautiful small tray.
  • Pinkies Up! Lastly, although your pinkie does not have to be literally up, consider the following ideas when it comes to proper decorum: always serve from the right, take small sips of your tea and avoid slurping, and never overfill your plate. This is tea, not a meal.

Liz Lange Offers INO Mommy Spring Fashion Advice

Posted by Vera On March - 3 - 2010

2010-03-03_104236(My friend Nicole from Mom Trends, me, Jane Wagman, Liz Lange)

Yesterday afternoon, after attending a Martha Stewart taping with a few friends, I was invited back stage to interview Liz Lange and her sister Jane Wagman about their newest venture, ‘Shopafrolic‘. I will go into detail about that fun and fab site later on today.

This post is dedicated to Spring and Summer trends - the ones we should all be watching out for.Lots of goodies to check out below:

  • Nautical themes or twists on the classic blue and white stripes
  • Big rosette details on sweaters, as accessories (like pins)  or on accessories (like bags and shoes) – think Sarah Jessica Parker in Paris during final ‘Sex and the City’ scene
  • Skinny pants – nod to the 80s continues
  • Blown out romantic florals
  • Mixing stripes and florals – don’t be afraid of this
  • Necklaces strung with ribbon
  • Straw / wood – any natural material for accessories
  • Shorts beyond causal wear – pair it with a blazer or sparkling tank
  • Turquoise! Turquoise! Turquoise! It’s just been named the color of the year

Which trends will you be practicing once the weather gets warmer? Anyone else DYING for this cold weather to end???
