Every Monday Matters is a nationwide movement based on a simple idea of collective action, “One action, one Monday at a time.” For example, imagine if everyone in the world picked up one piece of trash on any given Monday, what a difference that would make.
It all started with a book, Every Monday Matters: 52 Ways to Make a Difference. Oprah fell in love with the concept and has now dedicated a full year to promoting the thought on her website. EMM content has become a featured part of Oprah’s SPIRIT newsletter, alongside an EMM blog by Keisha Whitaker.
EMM is also rapidly expanding through their YOU MATTER Afterschool Curriculum—a new program that has received rave reviews from hundreds of students, elementary to high school. In less than a year, the program has spread from 7 schools in California, to over 250 schools nationwide and counting. L.A. county is piloting the program in its 1,4000 schools; Chicago is preparing to implement in their 600+ schools. The program is all about teaching kids the importance of social responsibility and giving back.
